Bacchus is the UK’s answer to Sauvignon Blanc. Think elderflower, peach and citrus with a crisp, zippy finish… Perfect for a sunny afternoon in the garden.
It’s so popular that usually there aren’t enough Bacchus grapes to go around - but thanks to more vines being planted and perfect growing conditions, 2023 was a great harvest. When Laylo’s Master of Wine Clem Yates heard about a tiny surplus of grapes at an Essex vineyard, she told us to snap them up. Immediately.
We can’t say exactly where the grapes have come from (the vineyard asked us to keep the over-yield a secret!) but this wine is made from top quality fruit, ripened to perfection.
The design
Your Limited Edition Bacchus is wrapped in a block print from a scrapbook of old ornamental books. We love the way it captures the lively aromatics of the wine, with fresh blue and green tones. Flashes of luxurious gold look particularly beautiful in the evening sun.
The Winemakers
The grapes have been turned into wine by Olly Shaw and Jacques Huysamer at New Hall Winery.
New Hall is one of the oldest wineries in the UK. It was started by Bill and Sheila Greenwood in 1969 with a vintage of 18 bottles, made at their kitchen table. Now it’s one of the most innovative and highly respected wineries in the country.
Chief Winemaker Olly joined last year and has been busy experimenting with new winemaking kit and yeasts, earning the “Yeastie Boy” nickname. Alongside his talented Assistant Jacques, Olly couldn’t wait to get his hands on these Bacchus grapes and boy, they've delivered…
