The Wine

When people rave about Malbec they generally mean the smooth, rich Argentinian stuff.

But shipping small batched wines from Argentina can cause all sorts of headaches. Then there are the well behaved French options. Which aren’t very ‘us’.

So we’d almost given up hope of a Laylo Malbec, until an unlikely sample from Spanish winemaker Lauren Rosillo blew us away… A parcel of top notch grapes, nestled on top of a steep hill, soaking up the Spanish heat, in the hands of a bona fide winemaking legend. This Malbec's juicy mulberry, blackcurrant and caramel flavours shouldn't be possible outside of Argentina, but Lauren Rosillo has pulled it off.

Pair with red meat or blue cheese.

The Design

The Malbec is inspired by a traditional flamenco fan (or pericón).
When you think of flamenco, you probably imagine the fiery romance of its most famous dance - the Tango. But to achieve the illusion of impulsive passion requires years of study… The top performers combine lightning-fast footwork with absolute precision, much like the skills Lauren embodies in his winemaking.

The Winemaker

Winemaker Lauren Rosillo is a master of his craft. With degrees in technical agriculture, agricultural engineering and oenology under his belt, it’s fair to say he’s learnt the ‘fancy footwork’ of winemaking. But the result is anything but strait-laced… His wine is generous, passionate and unselfconscious.

It’s up to you. You don’t need to pour into a glass, so cans are perfect for enjoying wine on the go. But if you do have a nice glass to hand, you’ll get a bit more on the nose (a fancy way of saying, you’ll be able to smell more of the nice fruit and florals). No judgement from us either way!

We’re here to show that putting wine in a can doesn’t have to mean a compromise on quality. Cans actually protect wine from light and oxygen, meaning the liquid inside can stay fresh for around 12 months. And as always, we work with a team of experts to make sure every glass of Laylo is super fresh.

Yes! All our wines are chosen by a Master of Wine and the wine in our cans is no exception. The liquid in our cans is exactly the same as our boxes, so you can be reassured that you’re sipping on a quality wine, whatever the format.

One of the great things about aluminium is that it’s endlessly recyclable so pop any empty cans straight in your home recycling bin. A study by Finnish company Alko showed that canned wine production generates 70% less carbon than glass bottles (per litre of wine), making it a sustainable choice.
