What happens when you combine an aristocratic family with a rebel winemaker?

A seriously sexy Grüner Veltliner.

When the traditional Esterházy family estate gave South African winemaker Rob Krammer the freedom to create the perfect Grüner, he took inspiration from harvests spent in the new and old world.

The result? A classy drop rooted in centuries of tradition, that’s approachable enough to be an everyday pleasure. A wine you can confidently serve at a fancy dinner party or enjoy on a weekday evening. Just because.

Grüner Veltliner is the Austrian grape.

It’s all racy lime and grapefruit, with a taste that wine aficionados describe as ‘white pepper’... Crisp, bright and herbaceous. The sort of wine that gives White Burgundy a run for its money. Its combination of citrus fruits, nectarine and white pepper flavours are only possible due to the cool, misty climate that engulfs the estate.

Winemaker Rob Krammer describes the perfect setting to enjoy his Grüner Veltliner as the tasting terrace at the winery, overlooking the snow-capped mountains near Vienna. Failing that we’d recommend your fanciest glass accompanied by Mozart string quartets on Spotify.

Worlds collided to create your Lot #11: Grüner Veltliner.

On the one hand, a passionate winemaker who loves to push the status quo. On the other, the noble Esterházy family estate, with centuries of tradition.

The baroque oil painting that forms the backdrop of your box represents aristocratic Austria. Look closely and you’ll spot the Esterházy palace, while wealthy revellers enjoy music, dancing and wine.

★★★★★

Some of the best wine I've drunk in recent years. Add to this the fact that it stays fresh for 6 weeks and it's a winning combination.

Quick delivery and really lovely wine. I can't comment on it lasting 6 weeks as mine only lasted 3 but the last glass tasted as good as the first.
